Senior Design Expo
By Aiman J
Date: April 29, 2009
Time: 11a.m. – 2.30 p.m.
Venue: Canavan Arena, Stevens Inst. of Tech.
Every year, before all engineering major seniors at Stevens graduate, they will have one special event to present their Senior Design project to the Stevens community. After restless nights for almost one year, they really wanted to prove that their ‘babies’ were among the best. On Wednesday, 29th April, more than 70 innovations, new design or process from many fields of engineering were exhibited in Canavan Arena. Among the exhibitors, there were 20 Malaysian Seniors. To me, Malaysian seniors should feel proud of their efforts as all of the projects done by them could be considered awesome if not successful. And of course, Class-of Next-Batches should start thinking about what we are going to build for our senior design. Btw, most of the juniors, sophomores and frershmen went there to show our support. Malaysia Boleh!

| Project Name | Department | Group members | Project Description |
|
1) Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) |
ME |
-Qayyum -Wan Ahmad Fauzan (Pojey) -5 others non-Malaysians |
This robot can safely and effectively be used in applications such as underwater research and underwater threat detection. This project was given a budget $25,000. |
|
2) Icing Wind Tunnel: |
ME |
- Fatimah (Tim) -4 other non-Malaysians |
They built a small scale Icing Wind Tunnel (IWT) so that it can mimic icing conditions similar to the conditions an aircraft experiences during flight. This product makes it possible for Stevens to study ice accumulation. For further detail go to this website: http://me424iwt.wordpress.com/
|
|
3) Unmanned Oceanographic Research Vessel (UORV) |
ME |
-Ihsan -Ammar -1 other non-Malaysian |
UORV is a fully autonomous surface vessel prototype. Equipped with solar and wind energy for power, UORV is able to go to any point in the ocean for research purpose. |
|
4) Wave Energy Power Generator |
ME |
-Syafiq - 3 other non-Malaysians |
-The device will convert the potential and kinetic energies of wave in offshore locations into useful electrical power. The basic concept utilizes piston assembly to pump the water and subsequently run a hydro turbine. |
|
5) Train Quest |
ECE |
-Hafiz -Suhada -Sureen -Nadia |
They built a touch screen kiosk that will be placed at train stations to assist tourists and locals to get to their destination. |
|
6) WiFence- Wireless Fencing Scoring System |
ECE |
-Khairun Nisa -Latifah -Faizi -Afham -Irwan |
Recent electronic scoring for fencing sport requires too many wires to be installed at the fencers. This disturbs the fencers’ movement and weight. Therefore, this group designs a software system that could be run on a laptop to replace the machine. Bluetooth devices will be the communication link between the fencers’ weapon and the machine |
|
7) Digital Hybridization Technology (DHT)- “HD3″ Radio Add-on |
ECE |
-Aizat -Jowari -4 other non-Malaysians |
They develop a Digital Hybridization to hybridize a Digital Audio Player with an FM tuner. |
|
8) Widening of the New Jersey Turnpike |
CE |
-Shahir Hafreez (Jbon) - 3 other non-Malaysians |
They design a curved overpass above the New Jersey Turnpike to widen the turnpike. The design involves various aspects including roadway geometry, geotechnical engineering, cost and structural design. |
|
9) Batch Crystallization of Potash Aluminum |
CEMS |
-Afiq (Abom) -1 non-Malaysian |
This project involves solution crystallization of potassium aluminum sulfate using a highly automated batch crystallizer. Effect of operating parameters such as super saturation, temperature and seed amount on crystal yield will be investigated. |

Sure, thanks for the compliment!
