MASA History


Malaysian Students Association in Stevens Institute of Technology has been started in 2004 with Syamsul Anuar Idrus as the President. There were only thirteen Malaysian students at that time, 5 from Class of 2007 and 8 from Class of 2008. MASA has held various activities to start off as a club in the year of 2004-2005.

 

In Fall 2005, 19 new Malaysian students enrolled in Stevens Institute of Technology and join the expansion of MASA in order to be an RSO (Recognized Students Organization). MASA hold its first Malaysian Night and showed Puteri Gunung Ledang plus provided a lot of different types of food as an introduction to Malaysian traditional culture. Ever since, Malaysian Night has become an annual activity. MASA has also held various other activities including Sudoku Competition, Soccer Tournament and Badminton Tournament.

 

MASA has earned the RSO title in Spring 2006 and became a part of Ethnic Student Council (ESC), thanks to all the Malaysian students and also faculty members of Stevens Institute of Technology who made this happen. MASA has represented Malaysian culture to Stevens’s body and also has taken care of the welfare of Malaysian students in Stevens Institute of Technology.

 

MASA has taken part actively in Freshman Chip N Dip, Unity Carnival, Unity Show and various other events. Currently, MASA is known as one of the most active students’ organization on campus.
