MF Conference NYC 2010: Harapan
Hello!!
My name is Carol and I am a graduating senior at Berkeley College, New York City and I’m a Malaysian (duh, haha) from Kuching, Sarawak. :)
I am writing this email on behalf of the Malaysia Forum (MF) Conference committee and would like to extend you a formal invitation to attend our MF Conference NYC 2010: Harapan. As you may know, we have been organizing MF Conferences in the Northeast for the past two years, first at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA in 2008 and at Yale University in New Haven, CT last year.
And here we are again! This time, the MF Conference will be held in what I honestly believe is the most exciting city in the whole world – New York City! Here are some brief details:
======================================
Date: April 2-4, 2010 (Save these dates!)
Venue: Columbia University, New York City
Registration Fee: $15 (inclusive of snacks and a sumptuous Malaysian dinner! Our excellent company is a free side perk)
=====================================
The conference this year will be made up of two key sessions: a live local forum on Active Citizenship and a broadcasted forum from, yup, KL! There will be exciting speakers both locally and from home – trust me, you will enjoy it. In addition to that, we will be having group discussions where you get to interact and engage with fellow Malaysians and hear each other’s thoughts on issues that are close to home.
You can find out more about what’s planned for MF Conference NYC 2010: Harapan by visiting our website: http://www.malaysiaforum.org/nmf/. You can also register for the Conference at http://www.malaysiaforum.org/nmf/register/. We have also included a general FAQ page in the website, which is accessible by clicking this link: http://www.malaysiaforum.org/nmf/faq/
If you are from out-of-state, I’m sure you’re wondering about accommodation. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, we will not be able to offer free accommodation to participants this year. However, we have compiled an excellent list of accommodation options at http://www.malaysiaforum.org/nmf/lodging/ Should you need assistance, we would be more than happy to extend our help to you. Please feel free to email us at mf2010@googlegroups.com.
We would really appreciate it if you could spread the word to your friends/fellow Malaysians everywhere about this exciting conference. And, no, it is not compulsory to be a Malaysian to participate in this conference. :)
I would really love to see you at the conference this year! MF Conference is something that is truly close to my heart – not just because of the topics that we get to discuss, but also because it is where you get to get to know/meet up and hang out with Malaysians who are studying around the Northeast – now how often does that happen? :)
Looking forward to meeting you!
Cheers,
Carol

Festival Makan Malaysia! A Mess Yet Successfull Event
Salam and hello. On March 2nd, we were having a Malaysian Food Festival. The event was awesome. We were expecting a total of 60 guests from Stevens community. However, the event was beyond anything we had expected. More then 100 people came to the event, including those who are living off-campus. And to our surprise, some people, which we had no idea where they came from, were there too. And yes, we all agreed that the key to the event success was the food! And of course, free MALAYSIAN FOOD!!! All the guests managed to finish all the food, leaving the hungry Malaysians with empty trails and bottles. To his credit, Harris (the PD), who looked a bit confused yet excited during the event, successfully organized the event. We are hoping that our next event will be a success too. =)
MF Conference NYC 2010: Harapan
Come join many other Malaysians from around the US to talk about Malaysia, and the harapan we can have for our country. Join group discussions, and take part in the forum that will be broadcast live from KL. We’ll also be having a live Local Forum on ‘active citizenship’ and what it means for us to be Malaysians living abroad. And if that isn’t enough, we’ll also be having Malaysian food.
Yes, Malaysian food.
The event is expecting around 70 to 80 participants. And this will be a good time to socialize and widen our networks.
Join the event at Columbia University in New York City.
There will be a small registration fee of US$15.
