We must not forget those who made the props and the decorations. And last but not least, congratulation to MCs, the Malay clan, the Chinese clan, leaders and all members. Happy Wedding Day to Nisa and Abom

Nisa and Abom’s wedding day was held on July 18th 2009. After several years in love, they decided to tie the knot on that memorable day. The Akad Nikah was held in the morning, while the Persandingan took place later in the evening. We managed to go for the persandingan. Upon our arrival, we were given a bunga telur, as a token of appreciation for attending the ceremony. The menu was divine.  Everything looked perfect! :)

And then the moment of truth. The bride and groom walked into the hall, and took their seats accordingly. Nisa was blushing beneath her beautiful veil and Abom looked his best. The ceremony continued with Merenjis session, where some of the family members got the chance to merenjis the couple, as a sign of blessing. Then, Makan Beradab. The couple enjoying their cuisine, but at the same time, welcoming people to the event, and appreciated their wishes, saying goodbyes to those who were leaving, and taking pictures. Wow, multi-tasking. lol

Next, we had picture taking session. How avid all those Stevens were coz we were the first to be one the altar with the couple, overlooking the fact that the family should be first. Hehe Sorry :)

After that, the cake cutting session. It was a 3-Tier cake that look so delicious.

In short, the wedding was a success. Everything looked perfect as Nisa and Abom planned it to be(or so we thought haha). It was the best wedding day I’ve ever been to, and the feeling was different too, coz it was my friend’s. I’m looking forward for the next wedding, who’s gonna be on the list!

Semoga berbahagia hingga ke akhir hayat, Khairun Nisa Aziz dan Mohd Afiq Affendy. Semoga Allah memberkati ikatan yang dibina. Amin :)

Engineering Design in Malaysia

Fifteen Malaysian students are taking Stevens Institute of Technology’s Engineering Design I and II courses in their home country this summer. At the Institute’s partner university, the Universti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Kuala Lumpur, Industry Professor Edward Blicharz is teaching the courses and enjoying his work with the students. “Things are going really well,’’ he comments. “The students are hard-working and are having fun.” Completing the two courses this summer will allow them to transfer to Stevens this fall and graduate in 2012. This is one of the unique aspects of the twinning program between Stevens and UiTM.

Stevens has been working with International Education Center (INTEC) at UiTH since 2003, and 32 students have graduated from the program during that time. Each year, exceptional Malaysian students join this program, selecting Stevens for many reasons, including its rich academic experience, proximity to New York City, and cultural diversity. The students are Malaysian Government Scholars, which means they are the top 1% of students, and they are fully sponsored for their education by the government. Stevens is one of only 40 schools in the U.S that meet the Malaysian government’s standards for this prestigious program. In the 2009-10 academic year, Stevens will welcome 35 Malaysian Government Scholars to the Hoboken campus.

As a result of the success of the program and extensive work in Malaysia by Stevens President Harold Raveche, a formalized twinning program has been developed. Signed by Dr. Maureen Weatherall in 2007, the program has resulted in more than 30 outstanding sponsored students joining Stevens after completing two years at INTEC.

Dr. Keith Sheppard, Associate Dean of the School of Engineering and Science, says: “Offering these courses is a great way to build our relationship with INTEC and students in Malaysia. It helps form connections because the students get to know Stevens before they get here, and they gain valuable experience in engineering design.” The culmination of the Design I course was a robot competition. Deputy Director of INTEC, Norhayati Ahmad, was there to support the students. She and the other administrators expressed their delight at the high level of the technical design and testing challenges the students were confronted with and met successfully.

Mrs. Edwina Fleming is the overall coordinator of the program at Stevens and has developed close ties with the students, the faculty at INTEC and the growing Stevens Alumni body in the region. Two recent alumni have been sponsored by the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia to stay at Stevens and complete their PhD’s in preparation for joining the faculty. “Working with these students has been a wonderful experience,” says Mrs. Fleming. “Their enthusiasm and spirit has enriched our campus community and their academic excellence sets a standard for all of our students. They return home and act as wonderful ambassadors for our university, just as they have been wonderful ambassadors of Malaysia while on campus.

MASA Senior Graduation Night 09

MASA celebrated its graduating seniors in such a glamorous and exciting event, Senior Graduation Night 09. This prestigious event was taken place on April 18th 2009 at Jacobus Lounge.

The event started at 8.30pm with the arrival of the guests. Most of the guests dressed nicely and looked extremely attractive in suits and dresses. The theme of the night was Blue, Black, White and Gray. Promptly at 9pm, all seniors were invited to line up outside the lounge for a ‘surprise’. They were asked to make a grand entrance with America’s Next Top Model Soundtrack as background song. They’re really good with pose, I wonder where they learnt it? Hmmm lol

The Seniors during Opening Catwalk

The event went smoothly according to the plan. Every batch class made an impressive performance, some sang to their heart content, and some dancing like the world is theirs. And most imprtantly, the seniors were having the time of their life :)

The performances started with Syafiq and his special Mocha. The freshmen Syaz and Redz, sang a song, So Happy Together with Nisa and Abom. Then anothrer song sang by the Juniors, Hakim, Hazim, Apok, and Pokcik. Later on, the Sophomores decided to dance The Pop Yeh Yeh dance that they performed during Unity. Not to forget, Tim and Qayyum who were really into the song.  After that, Aizat sang several medley songs. Oh how we all like I’m Yours right? Memories~  Ari(Vocal), Paan(Piano), Mac(Guitar)and other sophomores performed Bila Kau Sudah Tiada, Stay and Season in the Sun. They seem like a professional underground band :) Next, we also had A Ultraman Dance. I didnt expect to see this coming. Lol. and several other performances.

Group picture while Aizat’s performance.

The menu was delicious. It was from Satay(as always). While the guest were having dinner, several videos of the seniors made by Ari, Macho, Syaz, Redz, Haidha, and Paan, were played. In these videos, we captures their memories since freshman year. If there wasn’t a title saying the person name, you could hardly guess who’s who. Haha

As usual, the awards giving ceremony was held to express gratitude for their hard work. The best Project Director goes to Tim for her contribution to make Malaysian Night, Malacca such an wonderful event. Congratulations to the other winners as well. And we also had the lucky draw contest.

PokCik, Tim and Hazim; winners of best event

Then, the climax of the event was the crown of the King and Queen. Several regulations were applied(some didnt follow though lol). After the voting session, it was offically that Shahir Hafreez(Jebon) is the King Of The Night*applause*. Last year King, Irwan made a royal appreance to crown this year King. Next, The Queen of The Night*drumroll* The one and only, Latifah Sarah. To celebrate their crowning, they sang a song, You Got A Friend In Me.

Everyone continued to enjoy themselves till we didn’t realize it was 2 in the morning. Overall, it was a successful event. I hope all the seniors had lots of fun since it was their graduation night. It’s a way for the underclassmen to show their appreciation, because without the seniors, it’s hard for us to survive.
