Malaysia Night 09

Syabas!! Malaysia Night was successfully done. Congratulations to the organizer, MASA, especially Project Directors, Redzuan and Syazwan. For this year, we have chosen cultural calendar as the theme for our Malaysian Night. It showed some of significant events in Malaysia throughout the year. To do so, we come out with the idea of calendar to perform various dance or performance from the three main races in Malaysia which are Malay, Chinese and Indian according to the month in which they have their biggest celebration. On the top of that, our Malaysian Night also brings up the message of unity along with the spirit of Satu Malaysia.

On November 20, Malaysia Night was started at 7.30pm with the arrival of Stevens’s president, Dr Harold Raveche, Mrs Edwina Fleming, Malaysia Ambassador, Datuk Seri Dr. jamaluddin bin Mohd. Jarjis and his beautiful wife. Also attending are officials from MSD and MARA. Around 8pm the table was full. The ceremony was started by Silat, speech from Stevens’s president, memorable speech from Malaysia Ambassador, and proceeded by cutting pulut kuning.

Audiences were then entertained by various performance consisting of Malaysia Dance, horse dance (kuda kepang), Story of Independence, and special performance by CSA and IUA. On the top of that, Malaysian food were serve to the audiences throughout the event started at 9pm. Various food were served for the event consisting of mee hailam, nasi lemak, ayam masak merah, keow teow, rojak pasembor, and…… I forgot the rest because too many foods. The event finished at 11.30pm with the bright smiled from each audience. Overall, this event was successful and will be a distinguish event in the MASA calendar.

p/s: to MN09 PD, you just successfully organize an event which cost same as a grand kenduri kahwin. Probably cost more than that if we consider no free of charge performances (especially distinguish performance of kuda kepang)

MASA Students vs Miftaahul Uloom

Last Sunday, eight Stevens students were having a volley ball friendly match with Mua Sabers, a Miftaahul Uloom volley ball team. The match took place at Miftaahul Uloom school at 11 am. Before the game started, the Malaysians didnt expect to win the game. Early in the game, the Arabs were conquering the game and the Malaysian boys hardly coped the pressure given. However, after being encouraged by the supporters and fans, the Malaysian became spirited and turned the table around and won the first set. The Arabs, however, were not that easy to give up. Strongly supported by the supporters, they manage to give a good fight to the Malaysians in the second set. The spirited Arabs then won the second set. The Malaysians, then, came up with a strategy and plan. Leaded by Harris, the game mastermind, they play as they were in the battlefield. As Bo was supported  by Azhari, the control tower of the team, he became an assassin in front of the net, spiking and hitting the ball aggressively. The Malaysians became spirited again as they conquered the whole game. With their persistent and determination to win, they won the third, the fourth and the fifth set. The match ended and the Malaysians tasted their glory. Syabas!!

We got three Champions!!

New update!! MASA Badminton Cup 2009 tournament was here yesterday at our beautiful Walker gym. It was a huge success with more than 50 Stevens’ students participating in the tournament. The tournament started at 12.30 pm and ended at 7.30 pm. During the tournament, the crowd was focusing on men’s single as there were tight contest among players. Unfortunately, our only Malaysian best player was forced to get 4th place in the category. For men’s double, Malaysian were conquering the 1st, 3rd and 4th place. It seems that Malaysian doubles have the potential to be star players, isn’t? Malaysian women were also promising as they secured the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place in women’s single. Hurm, well, nothing to say about that.

Thanks to all participants who joined the tournament and a big thanks to committees (Harris and Aiman J) who organized and handled the tournament and a warm thanks to those who helped to make the tournament a success.
