Islam teaches no racial discrimination and intolerance. Islamic history testifies to the genuineness Muslims have shown towards people of different cultures and religions. Within their own ranks, sincere and practicing Muslims have always kept their hearts and minds open to their brethren, no matter what their background.
Yet, what belongs to the Ummah today is no difference than a prejudicial way of life. It is not the problem of others anymore because really, Islamic brotherhood is hardly seen nowadays. They have become the very sad reality amongst a number of Muslims as well, where we find it too hideous to confess.

Bad news:
•	It’s not difficult to hear an uncommon racial label used among some Muslims, ignorant or negligent of the Quran and Sunnah’s disapproval of backbiting, slander and hate.

•	Alhamdulillah, all Masjids are open to all people and no Masjid has racial policies. However, racially divided neighborhoods result in an ethnically dominant Masjid type. Usually, negative attitudes of some and language specific Masjid programs cause miscommunication. This is because some people want to make sure their mother tongue survives in America.

Good news:
•	Five times a day, every day, Muslims of every cultural and ethnic background stand shoulder to shoulder to perform their prayers. There is no issue of who stands where based on their color or ethnicity. On a larger level, to remember that millions of Muslims, everywhere of all shapes, colors, sizes, countries, etc. all face the same place to pray, five times a day, is incredible. However, this lesson is usually overlooked even by the Muslim community itself.

• Muslims united in pain. There is a keen understanding amongst many Muslims that when it comes to oppression, it doesn’t matter if you’re a black Muslim, a white Muslim, a Kosovar Muslim, a Chechen Muslim, a Kashmiri Muslim or a Somali Muslim, you are suffering. Imams often make Dua for oppressed Muslims they have never met, no matter what their skin color. Muslims pray along in sympathy and support.

Curing the disease of racism takes time. It also takes humility, sincerity and requires seeking out the right guidance. We just have to sincerely admit the only label we have which is Islam and make a concrete effort to change. Has not Muhammad (pbuh) told us:

“O people, Remember that your Lord is One. An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a black has no superiority over white, nor a white has any superiority over black, except by piety and good action (Taqwa). Indeed the best among you is the one with the best character (Taqwa). Listen to me. Did I convey this to you properly?”
People responded, “Yes. O messenger of God.” The Prophet then said, “Then each one of you who is there must convey this to everyone not present.”
(Excerpt from the Prophet’s Last Sermon as in Baihiqi)

Let’s make the difference.

Sometimes they exist in a state of confusion, perhaps like being stuck in a dream.

Sometimes ghosts are trapped and need to be released. Let them know they can move on.

Animals can see or sense spirits, that’s why you often see them just staring intensely at what appears to be nothing.

Ghosts are often associated with hauntings, which is regular occurrence of paranormal phenomena associated with a particular locality, especially a building, and usually attributed to the activities of a discarnate entity. The the phenomena may include apparitions, poltergeist disturbances, cold drafts, and sounds of footsteps and voices.

Most ghosts can’t or won’t hurt you they just want to be noticed.

Salam and hello. On March 2nd, we were having a Malaysian Food Festival. The event was awesome. We were expecting a total of 60 guests from Stevens community. However, the event was beyond anything we had expected. More then 100 people came to the event, including those who are living off-campus. And to our surprise, some people, which we had no idea where they came from, were there too. And yes, we all agreed that the key to the event success was the food! And of course, free MALAYSIAN FOOD!!! All the guests managed to finish all the food, leaving the hungry Malaysians with empty trails and bottles. To his credit, Harris (the PD), who looked a bit confused yet excited during the event, successfully organized the event. We are hoping that our next event will be a success too. =)

NEW YORK – Earth’s days may have gotten a little bit shorter since the massive earthquake in Chile, but don’t feel bad if you haven’t noticed.

The difference would be only about one-millionth of a second.

Richard Gross, a scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., and colleagues calculated that Saturday’s quake shortened the day by 1.26 microseconds. A microsecond is one-millionth of a second.

The length of a day is the time it takes for the planet to complete one rotation — 86,400 seconds or 24 hours.

An earthquake can make Earth rotate faster by nudging some of its mass closer to the planet’s axis, just as ice skaters can speed up their spins by pulling in their arms. Conversely, a quake can slow the rotation and lengthen the day if it redistributes mass away from that axis, Gross said Tuesday.

Gross said the calculated changes in length of the day are permanent. So a bunch of big quakes could add up to make the day shorter, “but these changes are very, very small.”

So small, in fact, that scientists can’t record them directly. Gross said actual observations of the length of the day are accurate to five-millionths of a second. His estimate of the effect of the Chile quake is only a quarter of that span.

“I’ll certainly look at the observations when they come in,” Gross said, but “I doubt I’ll see anything.”

Did you know that the average chocolate bar in the U.S. contains at least 8 pieces of an insect in it? Harvesting of the cacao beans occurs in the tropical countries of South America with low sanitation levels. Cacao tree beans are cut and piled in the farmer’s field where they ferment for 6 days. During this process, children and adults walk over the piles; insects, rodents, small animals and other living things that make their nests in the piles. Actually the The U. S. Department of Health publishes a book entitled “The Food Defect Action Levels” in which they list unavoidable defects in food (insect, rodents etc.) all allowed by FDA.

Dr. Howard Gardner of Harvard University proposed that there are several types of intelligence: naturalist, logical, mathematical, musical, interpersonal, spatial or linguistic (many theories include eight or even nine types). The type of intelligence differs in everyone and is largely a natural phenomenon. Naturalists can easily find the difference between natural things like clouds, animals, plants, etc. Whereas mathematically intelligent people are quick at calculations, propositions and hypotheses. Musically intelligent persons are able to discern rhythm, tone or pitch and can identify sounds which a normal human being might easily miss. Those with spatial intelligence have a unique quality of thinking in pictures. On the other hand linguistically intelligent ones use words for imaginative activities.
